HFA expresses concern over FAWC’s report
The Halal Food Authority (HFA) has expressed concerned over the Farm Animal Welfare Council’s report which calls for repeal of exemption of pre-stunning for for Halal and Kosher slaughter. The HFA would continue to campaign for the retention of this exemption.
The HFA opposes stunning to kill the animal because of the Islamic requirement that at the time of slaughter the animal should be healthy and alive and its blood should flow freely after slaughter. However, experiments carried out to immobilise the animal through controlled stunning, if successful, would be looked at with an open mind.
‘ The HFA will continue to work with the FAWC as before to improve animal welfare’, said Masood Khawaja, President of the HFA.
