Once again some scrupulous individuals and traders are selling Zam Zam – the Holy water. First of all Zam Zam should never be sold and, secondly Food Standards Agency has confirmed that bottled water being marketed as ‘natural Zam Zam water’ has traces of contamination and high level of arsenic, which is illegal and detrimental to human health.
Halal Food Authority would implore and advise all Muslims not to purchase Zam Zam, since it is easy to be allured by sanctity of its usage in this holy month of Ramadan. This warning and caveat does not apply to gift of the Holy water brought in by the pilgrims, friends and relatives returning from Umrah and Hajj.
Masood Khawaja, president of Halal Food Authority said that it would be advisable to report to appropriate Local Authority Environmental Health or the Local Trading Standards Offices should any one be found to be trading these proscribed brands of bottles, so that the culprits could be legally dealt with.
